The supplementation in animal productions is made with minerals available in the market, but they are not necessarily appropriate for the requirements according to the type of production. Thus, the purpose of this study was to design and formulate a mineralized salt that fulfil the requirements of the animals of the hacienda Ciudad Jardín in Simijaca- Cundinamarca, in order to optimize their productive, reproductive performance, reducing environmental impact and increasing the economic income of the use. The hacienda is located at an altitude of 2,559 m a. s. l., where Holstein breed cattle are fed with green fodder and some mineral supplements. In this study, the nutrients that the animals were
receiving were determined by means of a soil analysis, a bromatological one to the kikuyu fodder (Pennisetum clandestinum) and a bromatological one of the supplied pellet; being these the base of the feeding to the bovines in production. These samples were taken to the laboratories of the Faculty of Agronomy of the National University of Colombia. According to the results, it was calculated what minerals were required to be supplied by means of supplementation, formulating the mineralized salt with the following components: sea salt, biophos, sulfur flower, copper sulfate, zinc oxide, magnesium sulfate and Tramin® (supplement of minerals and vitamins) as a source of micro-elements and frutiño® (sugar and colligative properties) 150 g per 100 kg as flavoring and aromatic. It was found that, the economic benefit in the cost of production is lower in $ 116 Colombian
pesos per ration / animal / day, and the advantages of the salt formulated when productive improvement were evidenced. This demonstrates that, if each producer knew the nutritional base at the nutritional level offered to their animals, an efficient mineral supplementation could be generated with the parallel profits in production, reproduction, economic income and environmental impact.
