O primeiro caso de anormalidade conhecida como emagrecimento é relatado para D. luddeckei, no município de Villa de Leyva, Boyacá. O registro do espécime foi realizado por meio de busca visual na vegetação aquática emergente em um corpo d'água artificial, durante uma amostragem noturna na aldeia de El Roble. A falta de compreensão dos gatilhos dessa anormalidade nas espécies relatadas sugere um novo campo de pesquisa para a conservação deste anfíbio na Colômbia.
